Cabs & Clones Answers Unveiled
1.) Snowy Peaks Petit Sirah: This full-bodied, high-tannin wine could easily be mistaken for a Cabernet Sauvignon. Known as Durif in France, this wine is full of aromas of caramel, black cherries, raspberries, and coffee. With 12 months in French oak, this wine can be enjoyed young or held in your cellar for a special occasion in the future.
2.) Sweet Heart Lodi Cabernet Sauvignon: While originally from Bordeaux, France, many top examples of this grape now also come from California with fabulous values being found from the Lodi region like this powerful Cabernet. Filled with aromas of black plums, black cherries, vanilla, and cocoa, this wine is a classic example of the grape.
3.) Snowy Peaks Cabernet Sauvignon: Another true Cabernet, this example would be the perfect compliment to a dinner of short ribs or pasta bolognese. With aromas of black currant, blueberry, and vanilla, this wine showcases many of the tell-tale signs of the popular variety.
4.) Sweet Heart Tempranillo: Famous as the key grape in Rioja and one of Spain's crown jewel wines, Tempranillo can easily be confused with Cabernet Sauvignon. Both have thick skins, higher tannins, and a powerful body and both can live for decades in your cellar. This beautiful example from Sweet Heart shows classic notes of dried cherry, figs, and vanilla.
5.) Snowy Peaks Petit Verdot: One of the five classic grapes of Bordeaux, this grape comes from Cabernet's homeland but is not Cabernet. Known for bringing an inky purple color and a high intensity to red blends, it can also be a fabulous single variety wine in the hands of a good producer. Filled with aromas of date, chocolate, and fig, this wine is a beautiful example of what the grape can be.
6.) Taboche Cabernet Sauvignon: Another fantastic example of the grape, this Cabernet has complex aromas of currant, coffee and leather with supple tannins and a round mouth-feel. Pair this full-bodied wine with a T-bone steak, beef bourguignone, or porcini mushroom risotto and watch the magic that happens on your palate when you pair like a pro.
Cheers to drinking great wine!
